What Is Type C Waterproofing?

Type C waterproofing is a specialised method employed in the construction industry to ensure buildings and structures remain watertight and resistant to water ingress. This approach is commonly used in below-ground areas, such as basements, tunnels, and subterranean car parks, where the risk of groundwater seepage is high.

Type C waterproofing, also known as “cavity drain membrane” or “drained cavity” system, relies on creating a physical barrier within the structure. It involves the installation of a cavity drain membrane, typically made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or other waterproof materials, on the inner surfaces of walls and floors. These membranes create a space or cavity between the structure and the waterproofing layer.

The key principle behind Type C waterproofing is the management of water ingress rather than attempting to prevent it altogether. Any water that enters the structure is channelled into a drainage system within the cavity and then safely pumped away, often through a sump and pump system. This approach allows for some flexibility, as minor cracks or imperfections in the structure won’t necessarily compromise the waterproofing, making it a reliable choice for areas prone to movement or structural shifts.

Additionally, Type C waterproofing systems can accommodate insulation and finishings, making them suitable for creating habitable or usable spaces in basements. It is essential to consult with experienced professionals in waterproofing and construction to determine the best Type C system for your specific project, as designs and requirements can vary based on factors such as the groundwater level, site conditions, and local building regulations. In conclusion, Type C waterproofing is a proven method that offers effective protection against water ingress in below-ground structures while providing the flexibility to adapt to changing conditions.

Terribly disingenuous, do not use! We asked London property preservation to sort a bit of damp in our lower ground in 2020. I did not want much upheaval as I had tenants in the house. They promised us all would be sorted with little disturbance and they would guarantee the work. I got a quote, accepted it (not cheap, but o they offered a guarantee). Once they arrive on site they told me there were additional works. They showed a video, again, we agreed and paid, no questions asked. Water started coming in again… it took ages for them to answer emails (the server was apparently down), I then had to pay for them to look at the damage and now they are coming up with every excuse in the book to wiggle out of repairs. It clearly is the area they repaired, the same problem as before. I paid, I kept all reports and videos. These are not honest trades men. Don’t use them.

We used LPP to survey and rectify a damp problem in one of our rental properties that we own in Purley. The surveyor came out and met us at the property. He looked at the problem, proposed a remedy and quoted a good price which was much more reasonable compared to other quotes we had. They also liaised directly with our tenants as well as keeping us informed at all times. A convenient date for the work to be completed was arranged. LPP were on punctual and polite, completed the work within the agreed timeframe and left the property clean and tidy. I was extremely impressed and happy as were our tenants. Thanks to all at LLP great job!!! would never go anywhere else and would recommend to anyone.

We used LPP to survey and rectify a damp problem in a flat we own in South Croydon. The surveyor came out and met me there. He looked at the problem, proposed a remedy and quoted (which was very reasonable compared to others). LLP liaised with the tenants of the property as well as myself and arranged a date for the work to be completed. On the date of works they turned up on time, completed the work to be done and cleared up after themselves. I was extremely happy as were my tenants. Thanks LLP and the team! I wouldn’t use anyone else now…. Thanks again.

Type C Waterproofing Process

The Type C waterproofing process is a systematic and advanced method designed to keep your property watertight and free from dampness. This comprehensive process typically involves several key steps. First, a thorough assessment of your property’s needs is conducted to determine the extent of the water ingress issues. Then, a combination of innovative materials, such as membranes and drainage systems, is installed to create a protective envelope. This prevents water from entering the structure while managing any existing moisture. The process is executed by skilled professionals who ensure the installation meets the highest standards. Our Type C waterproofing process is tailored to your property’s unique requirements, providing a long-lasting solution for a dry and healthy living environment.

Condensation is one of the biggest causes of dampness in UK homes, which is why condensation control solutions are crucial if your home is struggling with the correct levels of ventilation.

Understanding Waterproofing Types

The key difference between Type A, Type B, and Type C waterproofing lies in their respective approaches to preventing water ingress in construction. Type A, commonly known as “barrier” waterproofing, involves creating a physical barrier using materials like membranes and coatings to keep water out. Type B, or “structurally integral” waterproofing, focuses on making the structural elements of a building watertight, typically through the use of water-resistant concrete or admixtures. In contrast, Type C, or “drained protection” waterproofing, employs a holistic system that manages and controls water ingress through a combination of materials, drainage systems, and expert installation to protect the entire structure. Type C is particularly well-suited for below-ground areas, such as basements, where water management is crucial to maintaining a dry and secure environment. London Property Preservation offers specialised solutions for all three types of waterproofing, tailored to your specific needs and the unique requirements of your property.
